Flight: So far, there are only Chengdu and Chongqing operating flights to Jiuzhaigou. Chengdu is most popular gateway city for flights to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport with about 7 available from early morning to later afternoon. Chongqing comes after Chengdu with usually about 1 ~ 3 available schedules. Air routes from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou to Jiuzhaigou airport is about to open. Jiuhuang airport is located in the plateau area. The flight may be cancelled for the bad weather (such as snowfall in winter). It is recommended that tourists make a backup transportation plan.

Jiuzhaigou Airport is located in Songpan County of the Aba Autonomous Prefecture, northern Sichuan Province (Latitude: 32.85 Longitude: 103.68). With an altitude of 3,400 meters (11,155 feet), it is the third highest airport at altitude in the world (after Qamdo Airport and Lhasa Gongga Airport.)

Jiuzhaigou Flights - Air Routes to/off Jiuzhaigou Airport

So far, there are only Chengdu and Chongqing operating flights to Jiuzhaigou. It is supposed to have 12 Air Companies running flights to/off Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport in the future, including Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Chongqing Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, West Airlines, Chengdu Airlines, Xiangpeng Airlines, etc. Currently, 14 cities in China can be connected with Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport, including Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Changsha, Kunming, Zhangjiajie, Mianyang, etc.

How to travel Jiuzhaigou with other hot destinations in China?

You can start your trip from Beijing where you can spend two or three days to visit Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Great Wall, Hutong… then take a high speed train to Xian where you can stay about 2 days and visit Terracotta Warriors, Ancient City Wall, Bell Tower…after that take a flight head to Jiuzhaigou and lastly fly to Chengdu, or go to Chongqing to take a relaxing Yangtze River Cruise.

Travel Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong by Flight in shoulder season

From middle November to April is the shoulder season for Jiuzhaigou tourism during which the prices for flights and hotels is much lower than the peak season from June to October with discounts about 50%. But many air routes are closed in the winter, and only Chengdu and Chongqing operate several flights to/off Jiuzhaigou.

Transfer between Airport and Huanglong National Park and Jiuzhaigou Valley

After arriving at Jiuhuang airport by plane, tourists need to transfer by bus from the airport to get to Jiuzhaigou scenic spot. Also, you can also take the direct bus to other scenic areas around, such as Huanglong, Muni Valley, Hongyuan Waqie Village, Ruoergai, etc.

How to Plan Your Jiuzhaigou Tour

Usually, 2 or 3 days are needed to explore the highlights of Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong Valley excluding the arrival and departure days. Most travelers transfer to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu by flight or driving. Some other cities also have flights to Jiuzhaigou, such as Beijing, Chongqing, etc. After arrival, spend a half day to tour the Huanglong Valley, and another full day to visit Jiuzhaigou. If you want to take a walking or photography tour, we recommend spend one more day.

You can also travel Jiuzhaigou with other hot destinations in Sichuan, such as Chengdu, Mount Emei, Leshan Giant Buddha, etc.
